Jerry and Nelda:
Congratulations to both of you as you celebrate your wedding anniversary!
Joyce and I will be celebrating our 56th in August. Boy, where have the years gone. Joelton, Tn. is a bedroom community to Nashville, Tn. We live out in the country appx. 23 miles from downtown Nashville. I retired from Lifeway ( formerly The Baptist Sunday School Board ) where I worked as a consultant for Broadman/Holman. I saw that you come to Tennessee for a gathering of other missionaries. Wish I had known about that and would have invited you to our home for a time of remembrance and fellowship.
Again, congratulations for this special event!
With love and fond memories,

Congratulations and a special Happy Anniversary to both of you. Not sure if you remember us, but we were for a short time, members of Morgan Ave., and of course we attended U.C.C.!
Joyce Reagan and I are getting ready to celebrate 56 years of marriage in August. So glad to get this opportunity to post to Anniversary Book.
The next time you come to Tennessee, give us a call. We would love to have you in our home and provide you with a meal or meals, a room to enjoy and lots of conversation trying to catch up on each others life experiences. Again, Congratulations!

Nelda and Jerry,
Tommy and I send our love and congratulations on your 50th wedding anniversary! What a loving tribute your son Brett has made in setting up a website with photos that span your life. The photos filled in quite a few gaps for me.
Nelda, my memories of you go all the way back to 1951 at Morgan Avenue Baptist Church. I have photos of you at my 9th birthday party in July of 1952. That was on 7th Street, across the street from South Bluff Methodist Church. I remember you and your family at MABC up until you and I graduated from high school in 1961. I especially recall playing on the MABC women's softball team.
Brett asked for us to recall memories. As I thought back, I recalled something I had totally forgotten about. On Oct 28, 1962, I spent the night in your Ruth Collins dorm room at Baylor in Waco. I had caught a ride from TWU in Denton and attended the Baylor-A&M football game. The game wasn't over until after 11 pm & we had to be in the dorm by midnight. Then 10 girls had a party in your room until 1:30AM. I got to eat at the athletic dorm (Martin Hall) with Tommy on Sat and Sun. On Sunday we went to Seventh and James Baptist Church and heard Howard Butt Jr. (I don't recall that.)
I don't recall knowing about your wedding though I am certain that my mom kept me informed. My journal tells me that on Fri June 30, 1967, I presented the oral defense of my dissertation at Baylor. We had just moved to College Station for an Air Force assignment at TAMU and I had spent the first month there typing the dissertation on an old Royal manual typewriter and manually drawing all the graphs and illustrations. We have all come a long way in so many ways since that time. May you and Jerry have many years of continued health and happiness.

Jerry and Nelda are two of my dearest friends and brother and sister in Christ.
Their marriage 💑 of 50 years is a testimony of faithful commitment to one another and to God. Raising two wonderful children while serving in the mission field, supporting our pastor when needed from the pulpit. Jerry teaches a senior men's Sunday School class and has taught many Bible study classes. Nelda served with Jerry teaching Bible classes and playing the piano at worship time.
I have known no one more committed to serving God while lending themselves to any effort that arises.
Olga and I are pleased and honored to call them friend.
We love you both in Christ Jesus. 6/24/2017

Congratulations on this wonderful occasion.
We wish we could be there to celebrate with you. Some of our happiest memories of Ghana include times we were with you - an Easter egg hunt in Takoradi, a trip to Ivory Coast, a pizza party where Doug and Jerry paid the equivalent of $10 each for all of us to have a coke, working with you at Asokwa Church (especially "The Hallelujah Chorus") to mention just a few.
We particularly remember your hard work and dedication to following God's will for your lives as well as your dedication and commitment to your family. You both were an inspiration to us.
Maybe we will see you again on this earth, but we know for sure we will have plenty of time for good fellowship with you in heaven. May God continue to use you and bless you as you follow His leadership.
Brett and Lauren have very special places in our hearts. Thanks for being such good friends to Paul. We love all of you.

Many of my favorite childhood memories were from when I spent weekends and Christmas breaks with my grandparents.
I remember when I was much younger we did fireworks and sparklers for new years and the 4th of July, and those memories have stayed with me forever.
Every Christmas we would go to a Christmas tree farm, cut down a tree, take it to their house, and decorate it.
You guys come to our school events and band concerts all the time and I love having you guys there!
I love you grandma and pop!

Hi Mom & Dad, I love you guys so much! I am there in spirit with you two and with the family.
There are so many things I could write. I really appreciate how hard you worked and how much you sacrificed, worried, and worked for your children - as a parent myself now, I can finally understand! The years in Ghana were crazy, but great. My junior high and high school years were wonderful. My college years were hard, but fun. You guys were always there for me and my friends - always welcoming whoever I chose to bring home. My childhood was very rich in experiences and love.
Thank you for being grandparents to my three children - coming to the band concerts, the scouting camp out for Ben's birthday, holidays, and to numerous other functions. Thank you for letting us invade your house for Thanksgiving and Christmas through the years! The grandchildren have many memories of your "haunted" house - lol! They still remember the time that Cory dressed up as a big, white Easter bunny! I remember the Fourth of July celebrations when the children were young, as well as the time we met in Carlsbad Caverns on one of our summer vacations.
I just want to say thank you for loving me and my brother. Thank you for loving my children and my husband. Thank you for everything that you have done for me and that I now pass on to my children. Thank you for teaching me the value of family and to take care of others. I am truly blessed to have you for my parents. I love you!

We were neighbors in Kumasi, Ghana. It was good to share experiences at station meeting and enjoy Brett and Lauren as youngsters. I was glad to see Jerry and Nelda at a reunion of Ghana missionaries in TN. I hope Brett and Lauren can come to one of those gatherings soon. Your "aunts" and "uncles" would be glad to see you. Congratulations on your 50th anniversary and God bless your ministry in the future.

The whole Burney family was a delight for those several years of hardship in Ghana. One time, Jerry was in Accra and he saw just what he needed for his ministry in publications in Kumasi. He decided to get it tomorrow. When he came back to the store the next day, It was closed for taking inventory! Life was filled with little difficulties that could threaten the stability of a marriage, but the Burney family showed the joy of the Lord who called them to an effective ministry at their workplace, their church, and in their example as a family.

I love both of my grandparents very much and wish them a happy anniversary. My favorite memories is when it was just one week without anybody except me and my grandparents, and the time when my cousins, uncle and aunt and my family were all together.

Nelda is of course my younger sister, so I have known her all my life, and I have known Jerry since our teenage year at Morgan Avenue.
I was living in San Francisco when they were getting married, and I told Gerald I have to go and be in her wedding because I won't believe it until I see it. David Rhew and I walked together in the wedding.
I have always loved both Nelda and Jerry, and they have always been willing to help me when I needed them!! I love their whole family. I wish I could write more, but this is the first time I have been on the computer in a long time!
I also enjoyed all the pictures. It brought back many memories! Love, Wanda

Jerry and I both lived on 15th street in Corpus Christi, unknowingly, about 3 blocks apart. One day around the mid 50s, it was raining hard and this woman and a boy ran up on our front porch for protection. We did not know each other, but turned out, it was Jerry and his grandmother who were walking home, and needed to find shelter. That is when our friendship started.
Jerry and I shared rides later to high school, double-dated, and did many things together at Morgan Avenue Baptist Church. Ah, the ping pong games, Sweetheart banquets, summer camps, and the softball team where Jerry played third base and I tried to pitch. Johnny Powell and Eddie Bradley were there, too.
Of course, I knew Nelda way before that because we are first cousins, and I spent lot of time at their home, and they, at ours, and we attended the same church.
Jerry was my Best Man, but I could not make his wedding due to dental school. Jerry and I worked at the Caller Times newspaper, but he was there longer and gained lot of experience which was valuable in his later career. We visited each other mainly at family reunions and it is always a pleasure to see them both.
I still try to help Nelda with her "42" game. Yeah, right!
For someone who was reared in a broken home, he had a loving mother and grandparents who guided him in the way he should go. Jerry and Nelda are truly a compassionate husband and wife, father and mother, and grandparents. They are splendid witnesses and examples to their Christian faith. They don't sit on the side lines, but actively participate in their beliefs.
We are proud to call and know them as our friends and cousins. And, to top it off, Jerry and Nelda are blessed with a marvelous family!
Congratulations on your 50th, a great accomplishment in this day and age.
Our Love and Respect to you and yours, Jimmy and Carolyn

Happy Anniversay to my two favorite people. You will never know how much I miss spending Sunday afternoon's with you both or coming to spend the weekends with Miss Annabell while you were off visiting grandkids. You might have said you were going to see Brett or Lauren but I know the "truth". I have grandkids too.
Jerry conned me into singing my very first solo when he was Music Minister at Praieirville Baptist Church. That is where we met. Thank goodness Nelda played the piano. She always followed me Very well!
Love you both and I thank God for you!
